Eleven-year-old pianist Wilson Liu of California was admitted to the Juilliard School Pre-College Division at age seven, where he received a full scholarship, the Bachauer Prize, and won the Concerto Competition. He currently studies with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone.
Wilson was selected as a member of the Artemisia Foundation, working with distinguished pedagogues including Jerome Lowenthal, Veda Kaplinsky, and Misha Voskressenski, and collaborating with opera star Leah Hawkins. At age nine, he appeared on PBS’s Great Performances: Now Hear This. Representing the youngest generation of artists, he was also invited to perform at Juilliard’s annual scholarship benefit, the school’s largest celebration event, where he received high acclaim.
A 2025–26 From the Top Fellow, Wilson will be featured on NPR broadcasts, podcasts, and social media platforms. Since beginning his piano studies, he has earned top prizes in numerous competitions, including the Kaufman Music Center International Youth Competition, XIV Chopin Piano Competition Hartford, and the Chicago International Competition. As the youngest contestant, he won both the 2025 International Young Artists Concerto Competition in Chicago and the Young Artist Concerto Competition in Vancouver, leading to upcoming performances with Seen Worldwide, NPO, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Wilson won the 2025 Nashville International Chopin Competition, receiving the Junior Alexei Sultanov Prize, an honor created especially for him. Wilson treasures the joy and personal growth found in preparing for performances and looks forward to continuing his musical journey while sharing his love of music with fellow pianists.
